There are no guarantees in fly fishing - until now!

It's confession time. The nymph I use more than any other is a Pheasant Tail Nymph (they just seems to work everywhere and at any time) but I've had more Pheasant Tails fall apart in the late-season than I care to admit (especially when they've been well used throughout the season)! I assume you know the feeling - you finally find the right depth, the right drift, fish start taking an interest, and then the hook gives up or the tying starts to unravel after a few too many fish. It's a different problem than losing one on a snag, but just as annoying - you're back to square one with a fly that you hoped should've had more life left in it.

in-fal-uh-buhl - The Autumn Fly That's Never Failed Me

I'm really looking forward to next week ... I'm testing some new fly patterns. Just before the Bank Holiday Weekend, I received the final samples of our "Autumn Fly" orders from 'the guys who tie' for us. But, in the meantime - I did manage to get out for an hour earlier this week, and the dry fly that did it for me was the Infallible Klink ...

Grubs Up - À la carte waterside dining

I hope you're waters have been topped up with all the rain we've seen over the last few days - typical of a Bank Holiday weekend! I want to take you back - just a few weeks - to the baking hot temperatures we experienced in July. When the grass was brown and the rivers had hardly seen any water in months and the majority of Stillwaters were closed (due to the water temperature) - the fishing outlook was pretty bleak! Just as I was tucking into my ice-cream (trying to keep cool), a parcel arrived from France. It was packed full of 'grub' style patterns - just what you need when there's no water to be seen anywhere! It was from good friend and French fly designer, Stan (of Nymphèvolution fame) - all tied to his usual exacting standards and that little bit different.
